Obituary

Dr. Bart R. Alfano, 71, of Dover died suddenly Thursday,February 16, 2017 while on vacation in St Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

He was the beloved husband of Jean C. (Ryan) Alfano sharing 48 years of marriage.

A Dover resident for 20 years and previously of Sherborn for 22 years, he was born in Worcester the son of the late Bartholomew and Dora (Zamarro) Alfano.

He attended Classical High School, and then Brown University where he was a member of their 6-year medical program. He graduated from Tufts Medical School 2 years later in 1969 and did his internship and residency training at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1973-1975. Dr. Alfano established a private internal practice in Natick and later in Framingham where he was still practicing after 40 years. He was devoted to his patients and for many years was president of the Metrowest Physicians’ organization.

Dr. Alfano was very interested in wine and proud of his wine collection. He had traveled extensively, including summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro while on safari in East Africa, trekking in the Himalayas in Nepal to view Mt. Everest, and visiting sites from the Lord of the Rings movies in New Zealand. He had been on 10 European vacations and he and his wife had hiked in over 20 national parks. At home he most enjoyed his porch, looking out at his backyard pond and driving his little red sports car. What Bart treasured most were the visits from his son Michael and his family over the years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his beloved son Michael Alfano and his wife Elizabeth of NYC, grandchildren Dylan and Evelyn Alfano, beloved sister Beverly Ahrensdorf and her husband Lee of Naples, FL, and his nephew Drew and niece Leigh.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, March 4th at 11:00 A.M. in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 11 Washington Street, Sherborn, MA 01770, with a reception to follow.

Visiting hours in the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, at Natick Common, are Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M.
