Obituary

Ella F. Shand, age 94, gracefully transcended this world on February 5, 2017. She was at home with her family.

Ella was born on July 11, 1922 in New Haven, CT. She grew up in New York City with six siblings and was predeceased by all. After graduating from high school she worked full time in the city. She eventually met and married Frank Shand. He was in the army at the time. In 1944 they returned to Frank's hometown; Boston.

Ella had a strong work ethic and often worked 2 jobs to help support her family. The last 20 plus years prior to her retirement she worked as a hostess at Diamond Jim's Piano Lounge in the Hotel Lenox. It was there she met many of the friends she would have for a lifetime.

Ella enjoyed music, writing, photography and traveling with her family. She took many trips to New York City, Hawaii, Maine, Colorado and Europe. On these trips Ella sent postcards and wrote letters describing her experiences as only she could. Her love for written correspondence continued throughout her life right up until her passing. She always remembered birthdays and the other special occasions of the people she cared for.

Ella's greatest passions were her family and friends. She was a loyal and loving woman who tried very hard to let those she loved know it in a variety of thoughtful ways.

Ella is survived by her children: Son Frank Shand of Jamaica Plain, Son Robert Shand of Hyde Park, and Daughter and Son-in-Law, Eileen and Robert Tarsky of Easton. Grandchildren: Frank Cameron of Toronto, Canada, Michelle and Spouse Johanna Brown of Tiverton, Rhode Island. Great grandchildren: Theo and Chloe Cameron of Toronto, Canada. Nephew James (Jimmy) Shand of Hyde Park. Nieces Mary H.
