EAST LONGMEADOW – Kenneth R. Fagerquist, 90, of East Longmeadow, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at East Longmeadow surrounded by all the memories that he loved and cherished. He was born in Worcester on November 26, 1926, the beloved son of the late Albin F. and Cecilia M. (Lamoureux) Fagerquist. He was raised in Worcester and moved to Springfield as a child with his family, attended local schools and moved to East Longmeadow in 2005. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal. He was employed at Friendly’s Family Restaurant and Ice Cream and had worked in Enfield, CT and mostly in Longmeadow for many years as an assistant manager. He was a communicant of the former Saint Joseph Church in Springfield until its closing in 2005. He currently was a communicant of Saint Paul Church in Springfield and also was a member of the American Legion. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving sister, Bernice Gilman who was Called Home in September of 2015; and his dear nephew, Steven E. Gilman who was Called Home on August 12, 2016. He leaves his dear nephew, Scott Gilman of Smyrna, TN; his dear friend, Elaine Asselin of Springfield and Elaine’s family members including her mother, Irene Asselin; her three brothers, Richard Asselin, Ronald Asselin and his wife, Jackie, and Raymond Asselin; and his many dear friends. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, February 15, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, February 15, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
