Obituary

SHANNON, Jeannette M. (Chambers) 95 passed away peacefully, February 1, 2017 at BrightView Concord River in Billerica. Formerly of Dedham for 25 years, Jeannette was the devoted wife of W. Russell Shannon who predeceased her.

Jeannette was born in Brighton, the daughter of Mary Gertrude (Dooley) Chambers and Joseph Chambers. The youngest of six, she graduated from Brighton High School in 1939. She soon started working as a secretary at State Street Bank (State Street Trust Co,) in Boston. Always a lady, her dedication and work ethic helped her rise in the bank to the position of of Executive Secretary, a job she loved. She retired a year after her marriage to Mr. Shannon in 1975. They enjoyed vacationing in Florida and hosting family parties.

She was a beloved, loving and generous aunt to seven nieces and nephews and their families: Rev. Henry Chambers of Boston, Dorothy Prophet of Brooksville, FL, Pamela Carle of Bedford, Diane Chambers of Danbury, CT, Virginia Brodeur of Tewksbury, Barbara Crane of Dedham, and David Chambers of Methuen. “Aunt Jeannette” enjoyed watching the next generation grow, and stood ready to help any of her nieces and nephews as they grew up. She particularly delighted in her husband’s grandson, Peter Shannon.

Jeannette will be remembered for her steadfast love, integrity, her keen mind, friendliness, and unbounded kindness toward family, colleagues, and friends.

A Funeral Mass for Jeannette will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Dedham on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11:00am. You may leave comments or remembrances at George F. In lieu of flowers you may donate in Jeannette’s memory to St. Mary’s Church, or the Humane Soc. of the U.S.
