WORCESTER- Walda A. Boyda, 84, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Care One at Millbury. She is survived by her sister Marianne Degnan of Palm Bay, FL, a sister-in-law Ruth Boyda of Worcester, MA, and many nephews and nieces including her nephew and caregiver Jack Boyda and his wife Sharon of Oxford, MA. Walda also leaves many great nephews and nieces, as well as great-great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, John “Jack” Boyda in 1949 and Walter “Franny” Boyda in 2010.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Walter A. and Ann (Griffin) Boyda and graduated from Ascension High School. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Walda worked at New England Telephone for 40 years retiring in 1989, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She worked at the reception desk at St. Francis Nursing Home for several years and volunteered for many organizations.
Walda was an avid traveler, her favorite destinations included Hawaii, Cape Cod, Misquamicut Beach and Florida. Because of her love for travel, she took great pride in planning many trips to the New England area hot spots for area organizations.
A funeral will be held Thursday, January 19th from CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 11:00am at Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge Street. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 18th from 5 until 7pm in the funeral home.
