Robert H. Gurney, Sr., age 76, of Norton, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 26, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Donna L. (Cote) Gurney, to whom he was wed for fifty-five years.
Born in Brockton, MA on November 5, 1940, he was a son of the late Howard and Olive (Pierce) Gurney. He grew up in Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton High School.
Bob had made his home in Norton for the past forty-five years and previously resided in Mansfield for ten years. Prior to retiring, he was the proud owner of Gurney & Son Drywall and Plastering, a company he operated with the help of his family for many years.
Bob and his wife Donna enjoyed participating in bowling leagues in Brockton, camping trips and spending time with their family. His favorite place to camp was on the ocean during storms. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children Kimberly A. Swank of Wareham, Tammy J. Dady of Norton and Robert H. Gurney, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Norton. He was the dear brother of Janet Welch and her husband Tom of Arizona, Sanford “Sandy” Gurney and his wife Ann of Hanover, Darilyn Foster and her husband Eddie of Florida and the late Avis Jones. He was the cherished grandfather of David Conti, Vanessa Swank, Ryan Gurney, Alaura Dady, Victoria Swank, Haley Peterman, Logan Gurney and Kaylee Lindquist, and is also survived by seven great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend graveside funeral services on Tuesday, January 3rd at 1:00 P.M. at the Cedar Knoll Cemetery, 175 Staples St., East Taunton.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
