Barbara A. McCarthy, 75

Barbara A. (Lynch) McCarthy, age 75, of Mansfield, formerly of Walpole, Roslindale and Charlestown, passed away, surrounded by the embracing love of her family, on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Norwood Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph W. McCarthy, Jr., to whom she was wed for forty-seven years at the time of his death on November 16, 2012.

Born in Somerville, MA on October 27, 1941, she was a loving daughter of the late James J., Sr. and Mary Ellen (McNamee) Lynch.

Barbara grew up and was educated in Charlestown, and was a graduate of the Julie Billiart High School in the North End of Boston.

Mrs. McCarthy was a retired Customer Service Representative, having worked for twenty years at the Amica Mutual Insurance Co. in Wellesley and previously at John Hancock in Boston.

Barbara had made her home in Mansfield for the past year and formerly resided for twenty-two years in Walpole. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Norfolk, enjoyed reading, but most of all spending time in the company of family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her devoted loving and devoted daughters Christine E. McCarthy of Mansfield and Patricia J. Prior and her husband William of Mansfield. She was the dear sister of James J. Lynch, Jr. and his wife Kristen of Braintree and Ann M. French and her husband Joe of Norwood. She was the adoring grandmother of Kevin Prior and Jennifer Prior of Mansfield and is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will begin on Tuesday, December 27th at 9:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Walpole.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 26th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Barbara’s family would prefer that donations in her memory be made to Compassionate Care ALS, 752 West Falmouth Highway, Falmouth, MA 02540.
