Sherry, John J. “Jack” age 88, passed away at his home in Newbury Park, CA on November 7 after a long illness. Mr. Sherry was born in West Roxbury, MA in 1928. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth and Virginia, and is survived by his sister, Dorothy Everett of Easton, MA. He is also survived by his daughters Dade Murphy of Newport News, VA and Linda Lange along with his granddaughter Kathryn Geurin, and his great-granddaughters, Amelia and Fiona Geurin all of Delmar, NY. Jack graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946, serving honorably until his discharge in 1948. His military experience led him to pursue a career in teaching. Health problems compelled him to relocate to Arizona where he taught middle school before becoming a school administrator. Always open to new possibilities, he became the supervisor of Employee Relations for Sperry Rand. In subsequent career moves, he relocated to California where he was in charge of labor relations for the Sacramento Bee and later, Arcata Graphics from which he retired. “The best decision I ever made was joining the Divorce Recovery Group at the Calvary Community Church,” he asserted. His involvement with that group was a major turning point in his life giving it positive purpose and faith during his last 25 years. A Funeral Service will be held in the Bishop Maguire Chapel at St. Joseph’s Cemetery 990 LaGrange St. West Roxbury, MA on Thursday November 17th at 12:30 PM.
