Obituary

Leslie Alexander, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.

Visitation will be held at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky. Graveside services and interment will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky with military honors.

Mr. Alexander was born April 17, 1925, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Michael and Dora Voils Alexander. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Mr. Alexander was an aeronautical engineer with Lockheed. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed building models and airplanes. His family founded Duval Concrete in Florida and he was instrumental in building the launch pads at Cape Canaveral for the Mercury rockets.

He is survived by his children: William Michael “Mike” Alexander & Janice of Greenback, Tennessee, Cynthia Alexander Garner & Ray of Nancy, Kentucky, Daniel J. Alexander & Freda of Fitzgerald, Peggy Alexander-Christie of Cleveland, Georgia, and Leslie Virginia “Ginny” Alexander Regala & Kevin of Minot, North Dakota; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Mae Marshall of Felicity, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Powers Alexander.
