Obituary

Mrs. Rachel Irene Parrish, 97, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Monday, October 17, 2016, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Pinetta Baptist Church in Irwin County with the Rev. David Barton and the Rev. Ronny Griner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary.

Mrs. Parrish was born April 2, 1919, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Richard & Donnie Carver Mulkey. She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in the Irwin County community. She was a very active member of Pinetta Baptist Church for 83 years where she taught Sunday school and held numerous positions in the church. She was well known in the community as “Miss Rachel” for whom you could always count on for advice and mentoring. She was the one to call to get the word out when there was a need in the church family or community. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for many in the community. She enjoyed reading and completing crossword puzzles. She also loved to fish.

She is survived by her children: Peggy & Kyle McMillan of Cordele, Kent & Elise Parrish of Fitzgerald, Dianne & John Summers of Enigma, and Natalie Parrish of Ocilla; grandchildren: Leah & Robert Johnson, Livia & Ron Ousley, Steve Simpson, Janet & Jamie Swaynos, Ray & Kelly Adams, Chris Simpson, and Michael & Rhiannon Simpson; great-grandchildren: Seth Harper, Lisa Bradford, Tristan Phillips, Travis Phillips, Jace Adams, Corbin Simpson, Brayden Simpson, and Kylee Simpson; great-great-grandchildren: Tyler Williams, and Lane Williams; and a sister, Myrtice McGee of Gainesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, S.A. Parrish; two brothers; and two sisters.
