MacKINNON, Robert S. of Sharon and Lakeville, MA, also known as Bob, Dad, Grumpy and Uncle Bob, formerly of West Roxbury, entered into eternal life on October 13, 2016 at 83 years old joining his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia (Leary) MacKinnon in heaven. He will be greatly missed and always loved by his 10 children, Kathy Foley of Roslindale, Jim MacKinnon and his wife Deb of Newbury, Pat Roth of Sharon, Joan Gainey and her husband Tom of Holbrook, Roberta "Bobbi" McCarron of Nashua, NH, Mary Sheehan and husband Rob of West Roxbury, Michael MacKinnon and his wife Susan Marie of Easton, Karen Straehle and her husband Mike of Norwood, Joseph MacKinnon and his wife Leslie of Hyannis and John "Jake" MacKinnon and his wife Eileen of Brookline. With a legacy of love, “Grumpy” also leaves 30 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren with two more “roughed in” and scheduled to arrive soon.

Bob grew up in the Boston area and lived most of his life in West Roxbury before retiring in Sharon, MA. He was a dear brother to Jack MacKinnon of Walpole, Muriel Hallet of Yarmouth, Carolyn Piersak of Needham, the late Marilyn Maguire of Dedham and Judy Natale of Waltham. He was the son of the late James (Jim) and Mildred (Mil) MacKinnon of West Roxbury and Ormond Beach, Florida.

Bob proudly served our country in the US Army as a member of the Corp of Engineers. As a Master Plumber in MA, NJ and NH, Bob was a member of the American Society of Sanitary Engineers, Chairman of the Gas Committee and member of the MA State Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters as well as member of the State Board Sanctioned Scientific/Technical Committee, Past President of the South East Inspectors Association, Past Plumbing and Gas Inspector for the town of Dedham and Alternate Inspector for the town of Sharon and retired President of Grove Hall Mechanical Contractors. He also served as a Consultant to Stop and Shop for many years assisting with the openings of several stores throughout MA. In addition to holding several other building trade licenses, he was most proud of receiving his MA Teaching Certificate and his almost 20 years of teaching evening adult continuing education to apprentice and journeyman plumbers preparing them for their licenses. He wrote and published the "Fitter’s Handbook of Residential Hydronic Controls."

Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street in WEST ROXBURY, on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 9:00am followed by a celebration of his life at St. Theresa of Avila Church, 2078 Centre Street, West Roxbury at 10am. Visiting hours Tuesday, October 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Interment at the Gardens of Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, in his memory, please donate to a charity of your choice, preferably something that uses music to make people happy or provides musical instruments to children in need which is something he loved to privately do for many children.
