Alice K. (Hansen) Schillberg, age 91, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the embracing love of her family on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Golden Living Center-Garden Place in Attleboro, MA

She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence E. Schillberg to whom she was wed for 65 years at the time of his death on June 26, 2010.

Born in Woodstock, Illinois on April 13, 1925, she was a loving daughter of the late Anton and Martha (Larsen) Hansen. She grew up and was educated in Woodstock.

A resident of Mansfield for the past 43 years, Mrs. Schillberg had worked for many years at the VA in Brockton, retiring with the position of an Executive Administrative Assistant. When younger, she had also been employed for the Department of Navy in Washington, DC.

Alice was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Norwood and the Puddle Ducks in Mansfield. She treasured the times spent with her adoring family and her hobbies included being a loyal fan and a season ticket holder of the New England Patriots, roller skating and playing the organ. She will always be remembered for the special place she held in her heart for animals, especially horses and dogs.

She is survived by his devoted children Edward L.V. Schillberg, Sr. of Norton, Larry M. Schillberg of Stoughton, Timothy A. Schillberg of Plymouth, Debra S. Porter of Maine and Dianne L. Schillberg of Norton. She was the adoring “Grammy” to her 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and was the dear sister of Arlene Hudson of Pennsylvania, and the late Esther Hughes and Clarence Hansen.

Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday October 13th at 11:00 A.M. in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church 24 Berwick St. Norwood. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday October 12th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.

Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Alice’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
