O’NEIL, Daniel J., 72, of Readville, died peacefully, with family at his side, on September 28, 2016 at Seasons Hospice in Milton following a long illness. Beloved husband of Arlene “Candi” (McDonough) O'Neil. In addition to his wife of 26 years, he is survived by his stepsons, Joseph Mahony and his wife Sherry as well as Keith Mahony and his wife Maureen, all of Dedham. Daniel was born March 20, 1944, in Boston, a son of the late Raymond J. and the late Blanche R. (Fannon) O'Neil.
Brother of Robert O'Neil and his wife Anita of New York, Brian O'Neil of California, Michael O'Neil of Chicago, Kathy O'Neil of California, and the late Raymond O'Neil, Richard O’Neil and Marianne (O’Neil) Gummere. Brother-in-law of Donna O’Neil of Franklin. Grandfather of Aiden, Emily and Joseph Jr. Mahony. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Daniel was raised in the Mission Hill section of Boston, where he completed his education. He was devoted to his family and friends, was also a member of the Mission Hill Post #327 and he was an Iron worker and member of the Iron Workers Union Local #7 for many years. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, boating, fishing, and especially spending time on Sebago Lake, Maine. Visiting hours Sunday, October 2nd 4-8PM, at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury. Prayer Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM at Gormley Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniel’s memory may be sent to Dana Farber Cancer Institute 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215.
