Obituary

WORCESTER/SHREWSBURY-MaryEllen (Murphy) Stott, 73, departed from this world to join her family members in Heaven on Tuesday, September 27th. After suffering for four years with Alzheimer’s Disease, she is finally free to spread her wings and enjoy everlasting peace. MaryEllen resided at the Golden Living Center, where she was treated with great respect and loving care during her illness. Her family would like to thank the many angels who so tirelessly cared for her there.

Mary Ellen was born in Worcester the daughter of the late Timothy and Ann (McGrath) Murphy. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Robert and Thomas. She leaves her loving and devoted husband, William P. Stott, whom she was married to for over 20 years. MaryEllen also leaves three stepdaughters; Linda LeFrancois of Worcester, Patricia Johnson and her husband Richard of Shrewsbury and Kellie McCarthy and her husband Gary of North Carolina, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

MaryEllen’s youth was centered around many activities at Ascension Church in Worcester. She also attended Ascension Grammar and High School. While in high school, she was captain of the cheerleading squad and sang in the choir.

After graduation, she received her nursing diploma from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. After working for years as a nurse at Memorial Hospital, she became a nurse for the Worcester Public Schools, eventually becoming assistant director. Later in life, she was targeted to open the medical department of the Worcester Senior Center. Many people came to love her generosity of spirit and love for those less fortunate. She will be greatly missed by all.

A visiting hour for MaryEllen will be held on Saturday, October 1st from 11:30am until 12:30pm at FAY BROTHERS Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston with a service to follow at 12:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 or www.alz.org.
