Edward J. Cohan, 95

Edward J. Cohan, age 95, of Norton, formerly of Everett, passed away, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna T. (Dischino) Cohan and the late Constance M. (McCarthy) Cohan.

Born in East Boston, MA on May 17, 1921, he was a dear son of the late William and Alice Cohan. He grew up and was educated in East Boston.

During WWII, Edward proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Force. While on a mission, his B17 Bomber was shot down over Germany. He bravely spent two years as a POW at Stalag XVIIB and was later liberated by General Patton’s Army. He was honorably discharged from duty on October 2, 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergeant.

Mr. Cohan had worked for forty years at New England Telephone and retired with the position of Manager. He had made his home in Norton for the past ten years and previously resided for many years in Everett.

Ed was a member of the Ex-Prisoner of War Organization and the Norton VFW Post 8049. He was a loyal Red Sox fan, enjoyed trips of Las Vegas and loved spending time with family. While living in Everett, Mr. Cohan was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday, September 29th at 10:30 A.M. in St Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St, Peabody. Burial with military honors will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.

Visiting hours have been omitted and in lieu of flowers, Edward’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Norton VFW Post 8049, 38 Summer St., Norton, MA 02766.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St., Norton.
