Paul K. Gallagher, Sr., age 90, of Norton passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Sarah M. (McDermott) Gallagher.
Born in Brighton, MA on July 2, 1926, he was a loving son of the late John J. Sr. and Lillian (Sweeney) Gallagher.
Paul grew up in Brighton and was educated in Boston schools. During WWI, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Following two of faithful service, he was honorably discharged on January 6, 1944 with the rank of Seaman First Class.
He was a retired Custodian having worked for fifteen years for Mansfield Public Schools and had previously been employed at BLH Electronics in Waltham. Mr. Gallagher had made his home in Norton for the past 51 years and was a member of the Norton VFW Post 8049.
He is survived by his devoted children Debra DiMarco and Linda Teixeira both of Norton, Donna Eng of California, Paul K. Gallagher, Jr. of Rhode Island and the late Laura Jean Gallagher. He was the dear brother of Genevieve Gallagher, Eleanor Bishop, Margaret Burley, Marilyn Moore, Patricia, and the late Frank Gallagher, John J. Gallagher, Jr., Anna Roskey and Dorothy Murphy. He is also survived by his cherished 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter as well as manyl nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend funeral services with military honors, on Wednesday, September 28th at 11:15 A.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours have been omitted and in lieu of flowers, Paul’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, 175 Fruit St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St., Norton.
