Rose S. (Haroutian) Mooshian, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5th at UMASS Medical Center, following a long illness, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John K. Mooshian, and her two sons, John T. Mooshian and his wife Christine Brodeur and Michael J. Mooshian and his wife Maureen Murphy, both of Worcester and her granddaughters Mary, Emily and Grace, her two sisters, Stella Tiscione and Shirley DelleFemine and her brother Peter Haroutian, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Serabian of Rhode Island and Violet Boosahda of Worcester.
Rose was born in Worcester on November 6, 1930, the daughter of Tateos and Mary Haroutian. She graduated in 1952 from Commerce High School and continued her studies at Worcester Junior College. Rose began her working life as an employee of Mellville Shoe and the former Thom McCann Company. Following her time at Melville, Rose stayed at home to raise her family before returning to the work force with the former Zayre Corporation as a customer service representative and as a part time lunch lady at Flagg Street School. During her time at Flagg Street, Rose decided to pursue a career as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for the Worcester Public Schools and spent her 20 year career at Canterbury Street School and the Francis J. McGrath Elementary School where she enjoyed working with the deaf population.
Rose was a member of the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church and its Ladies Guild. Rose was a member of the church’s annual festival baking group and truly enjoyed her time spent supporting her religious community. She loved working on craft projects and for many years participated in a ceramics painting group. She spent summers vacationing at the Cape and traveled all over the country with her husband John pursuing her desire to see the world.
Rosie’s greatest treasure was her family. Her sons and her granddaughters were her greatest joy. She was in attendance at every event from dance recitals, to softball games, crew races, induction ceremonies, plays and graduations for “her girls”. She looked forward to her regular weekly phone calls to check in on the activities and events that were happening in their lives and enjoyed talking about cooking with her youngest granddaughter, Grace. Always with a smile and a keen sense of humor, Rosie was never at a loss for words.
Relatives and friends may call at the CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester, MA on Friday, September 9th from 4:00 until 7:00pm. A Dahngark Service will take place at 6:00pm. Her Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street, Worcester, MA. Burial will follow church services in Hope Cemetery, Worcester, MA.
