Madeleine M. Benroz, 72, of Virginia Beach, Virginia formerly of New Bedford, Massachusetts went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2016.
She was born on August 10,1944 in Santo Antao, Cabo Verde and was raised in Dakar, Senegal.
Ms. Benroz was formerly employed at The Virginian-Pilot.
Her survivors include seven children. Sidy Niang (Marie), Abib Niang, Theo Niang (Nathalie), Gus Niang (Kerri), Bobby Niang (Penda), Abi Niang-Silva (Ebony) and Rose Niang; two sisters, Edie Kennedy (Mike) and Odile Oliveira (Don); one brother, Dominique Guilherme (Odile); 22 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She went to join her mother, the late Isabel Benros Pina, father Jose Pedro Canales and granddaughter Giselle DaCruz.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
