Edward H. Pierce, 85

Edward H. Pierce, age 85, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his adoring family, in the comfort of his home on Thursday, August 11, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen L. (Knowles) Pierce, to whom he was wed for fifty-five years at the time of her death on August 10, 2010.

Born in Mansfield, MA on May 31, 1931, he was a loving son of the late Clement A. and Margaret H. (Wilson) Pierce. He was educated in Mansfield schools and was a 1952 graduate of Attleboro High School.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Pierce had worked for forty-one years at the VH Blackinton Co. in North Attleboro. He retired in 2009 with the position of an Assistant Supervisor. He had previously been employed for seventeen years at the former Fairfield Optical Co. in Mansfield.

Ed was a member of the Mansfield United Methodist Church and was a former Call Firefighter for the Town of Mansfield for twenty-three years. He was also a life member of the Mansfield Historical Society and a former member of the Mansfield Grange and a former Assistant Cub Scout Master in Mansfield as well.

Mr. Pierce loved spending time with family and sharing with them his knowledge of the Pierce family history. He was a life member of the Harlow Family Association in Plymouth and a descendent of Nine from the Mayflower. Also, along with his late wife Helen, he enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his devoted children Deborah A. Gray and her husband Lester of Attleboro, David A. Pierce and his wife Dee of Attleboro, Steven E. Pierce of Mansfield and Phillip A. Pierce and his wife Minelva of Glen Cove, New York. He was the dear brother of the late Richard W. Pierce, Russell E. Pierce, Clement A. Pierce and Eleanor L. Paulson. He is also survived by his cherished 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, as well as his large extended family and his best friend “Potsy”.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, August 16th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 15th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
