Shirley (Mott) Bliss Emery, age 93, of Foxborough, formerly of Falmouth and Mansfield passed away at home with her adoring family by her side, on Saturday, August 6, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Alonso Emery, to whom she was wed for 19 years and the late Herbert F. Bliss, Jr., to whom she was wed for 31 years.
Born in Foxborough, MA on March 4, 1923, She was a loving daughter of the late Albert and Grace (Stewart) Mott, and the dear sister of the late Ernest Mott and Priscilla Shepard. She is survived by her devoted children Gerard F. Bliss and his wife Martha Belle of Mansfield, Nancy Bliss Bach of Foxborough, Richard A. Bliss of Mansfield, Ann Coarr of Pepperell and Mark Emery and his wife Sandra of Foxborough. She is also survived by her cherished 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley graduated from Foxborough High School and worked at several Foxborough banks in her early career, but her passion was music. She was the soloist at weddings and other events and she sang at numerous “on stage” venues with groups like the Neponset Choral Society and similar organizations.
Shirley worked at several nursing homes in Falmouth until she was 90 years old, then she volunteered at the Foxborough Senior Center for another year and a half.
Her funeral mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday, August 11th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 10th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Foxborough Animal Control, 40 South St., Foxborough, MA 02035, the Foxborough Senior Center, 75 Central St., Foxborough, MA 02035 or the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
