Shirley Gibbs Vassey, 65, of the Arp Community in Irwin County, died, Saturday, April 30, 2016, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Monday, May 2, 2016, at Arp Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ray Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends, Sunday, May 1, 2016, from 4-6 PM at the funeral home in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Ms. Vassey was born on July 12, 1950, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Clayton C. and Mary Abbie Tomberlin Gibbs. Shirley was an Assistant Director of Dietary at the Irwin County Hospital; and a 1968 Graduate of the Fitzgerald High School Purple Hurricanes. She became a Cosmetologist, graduating in the first class of Cosmetology from Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College. She enjoyed taking care of all her family, but especially her grandchildren; she was also a great cook, and a member of Arp Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children: Mandy V. Thomas and husband Trae of Rebecca, Georgia, Regina Braden Ward and husband William of Lake Butler, Florida; grandchildren, Brandon Adams, Cody Adams, Anna Thomas, Hunter Thomas and Emma Thomas all of Rebecca, Georgia; two sisters, Jane Watson of Pitts, Georgia and Jackie Gibbs of Rebecca, Georgia, and one brother, James Gibbs of Rebecca, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Lamar Gibbs.
