Obituary

Cleveland Montgomery “Mac” McMahan, 87, of Grovetown, Georgia, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in Hawkinsville.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Ocilla United Methodist Church in Ocilla with the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. His grandson, Heath Milford, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Frank Cemetery, Irwin County with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary of Ocilla United Methodist Church.

Mr. McMahan was born July 5, 1928, in Winston Salem, North Carolina, to the late John Lindsey McMahan and Cornelia Belle Simpson McMahan. He attended Clemson University and served his country honorably in the United States Army, retiring as Sergeant Major with over 20 years of service. He served two tours in Korea and was stationed in Taiwan and Germany as well as throughout the United States. Following his retirement, Mr. McMahan worked in civil service at the Signal School at Ft. Gordon. He also taught telecommunications and electronics at Augusta Tech. He was a member of Powell Baptist Church in Punkin Center community and also attended West Side Baptist Church in Martinez.

He is survived by his children: Sarah Janet Baldwin of Quincy, FL., Dr. Howard Cleveland McMahan and wife Janet Lee Miller McMahan of Ocilla, Mary Lynn McMahan Milford and husband Darryl Leonard Milford of Lexington, SC, and Dr. Alan Price McMahan of Eastman; his grandchildren: Rhonda Lynn Baldwin Zimmerman and husband Kenny, Angelynn Lee McMahan Young, Bridget Alicia McMahan Walters and husband Wes, Lindsey Heath Milford and wife Becca, Howard “Hank” Cleveland McMahan, Jr., and Brandalyn Loraine Milford Heiting and husband Jamie; and great-grandchildren: Madison Lee Young, Preslee Lorie Walters, Darbee Ann Young, Wesley Cleveland Walters, Miles Brandon Zimmerman, Riley Taylor Zimmerman, Howard Cleveland “Cleve” McMahan III , Cash Allen McMahan and Jolee Miller Walters; a sister: Alice Omurra McMahan Kay of Antreville, South Carolina; and his faithful furry friend, Sue Bee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Sarah Geraldine “Gerry” Price McMahan; a grandson: Benjamin “Ben” Miller McMahan; two brothers: John Matthew McMahan and Howard McMahan; and two sisters: Hazel McMahan Temple and Grace Miller McMahan Knight McNeil.
