Obituary

WORCESTER-Norma C. (Whited) Dzaugis, 88, of Worcester, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after a long illness.


Her husband of 21 years, Charles L. Dzaugis, died in 1971. A daughter, Theresa Dzaugis, died in 1956, and a sister, Constance Quinn, of Dalton, MA, died in 1991.


She leaves her children: sons, Lawrence Dzaugis and wife Patricia, of Villa Ridge, MO; Thomas Dzaugis and fiancée Noel Stewart, of Worcester; Andrew Dzaugis and wife Carolyn Droser, of Holden; and John Dzaugis and wife Nancy Kane, of Manville, RI; and daughters, Cathryn Dzaugis and husband James Cadieux, of Aiken, SC; Lizbeth Gustavson and husband Sten of Worcester; and Mary O’Coin and husband Terence of Sturbridge, MA; four brothers, William Whited of Falmouth, ME; Henry Whited and wife Birgitta, of Hope Valley, RI; John Whited and wife Barbara, of Hodgdon, ME; and James Whited and wife Betty, of South Portland, ME; and three sisters, Marie Whited, of South Portland, ME; JoAnna Colby and husband Steve, of Fairbanks, AK; and Sarah Higgins, of Frederick, MD; nine grandchildren, Alyissa and Chelsea Dzaugis; Gwendolyn Osborn-Gustavson and William Gustavson; Mary Elizabeth, Matthew and Peter Dzaugis; Charles and Emma O’Coin; and many nieces and nephews; and an “adopted” daughter, Tenchi Salcedo, of Lima, Peru.


She was born in Hodgdon, ME, daughter of Norman and Marie (Farmer) Whited. She earned an associate’s degree in medical records from Fisher Junior College, Boston, in 1947, and a bachelor’s degree in medical record administration in 1979 from Northeastern University. She served as director of medical records at several hospitals in Massachusetts and Connecticut.


She retired to Mesa, AZ but traveled to many places, including Ireland, England, Morocco, Peru, Alaska, and Hawaii. She also enjoyed handcrafts, embroidery and crewel work and she was an avid reader.


A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Sacred Heart/St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. There will be a calling hour from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Callahan~Fay~Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester, immediately before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Worcester Public Library, 3 Salem Square, Worcester, MA 01608-2074.
