Obituary

WORCESTER-Owen C Coogan, 84, of 61 Pine View Ave, Worcester and formally Leicester, died Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Odd Fellows Home of Worcester.

He leaves behind his immediate family, Ellen Davenport, Michael Coogan and his wife Rosann, Kathleen Coogan, Patricia Foley and her husband James; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and close companion June Camarra.

He was born in Fall River, MA son of Owen Coogan and Pauline (Wright) Coogan and is predeceased by his brother Daniel Coogan and sister Mary Morway. Owen graduated from St. Peter’s CCHS, Holy Cross College and Boston College School of Social Work.

Family, music and football, were Owen’s passions. He was inducted into the St Peter’s football Hall of Fame as well as The Holy Cross football Hall of Fame. The Mayor of Worcester proclaimed Owen Coogan Day to be November 22, 1952 in recognition of his great football achievements. Owen received an honorable discharge on February 28, 1962 from the Army and served our Country in the Korean War.

Owen devoted his life to the Catholic Church, specifically the Diocese of Worcester and raised monies for parishes as well as the Diocese as a whole. When not working, there were the Friday night family dinners, Sunday football, weekend family cookouts and Easter egg hunts, one of the many traditions carried on. His home was always full of music and those who were lucky enough to hear him sing knew Pavarotti had some serious competition. Owen was a strong and generous man who had many friends and will be missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 10:30am at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester MA. There are no calling hours and Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers and donations the family requests that families take the time to appreciate each other and have a technology free family dinner.

The family would like to thank The Odd Fellows Home for their compassionate and attentive care to both Owen and ourselves. We are forever grateful. Arrangements in the care of CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street.
