Webster
Clive C. Papineau, 90, former Webster Fire Chief and District 7 Fire Warden, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 19, 2016 in Ocala, Florida.
Clive was born in Webster, son of Franklin A. and Jennie (Belmore) Papineau and lived here all his life.
He was also predeceased by his sister, Shirley E. Carter, who died August 21, 2015.
He leaves a niece, Arlene C. wife of Richard D. Woodrome of Ocala and many close friends.
Clive started with the Webster Fire Dept. in 1947, following his father, grandfather and uncle as a volunteer fire fighter. He worked through the ranks as a fire fighter, engineer, served on the Board of Fire Engineers, Deputy Fire Chief, Superintendant of Fire alarms, eventually becoming Fire Chief and retired in May 1990.
He also worked with the Massachusetts Department of Natural Resources in 1951 as a Forest Fire Truck and Patrolman out of Oxford and Douglas State Forests, and became the District Fire Warden in the mid 1960;s. Clive worked for Mass DNR through it’s name change to DEM in the 1970’s and retired from there in 1990. Clive was instrumental in forming the Webster Ambulance Service and the Southern Worcester County Radio Committee. He was a member of the Tri-State Fire Fighters Assoc., the Blackstone Valley Fire Assoc., and Mass. Fire Chiefs Assoc.
Clive was also a life member of the Webster Lodge of Masons, the Webster/Auburn Lodge of Elks, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites, and a supporter and Noble of A.L.E.P.P.O. Temple of Shriners.
He was also a WWII, U.S. Navy veteran and served with the Seabees.
We thank him for his service to his community, his state and his country.
Clive’s Funeral will be Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 10AM in the ROBERT J. MILLER FUNERAL HOME and LAKE CHAPEL, 366 School St., Webster, burial with Military Honors conducted by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be Friday, February 26, 2016 from 6PM to 8PM in the Funeral Home.
A Masonic Ritual will take place at 7PM in the funeral home on Friday.
