Obituary

In Taunton, John C. Gallagher, age 90, passed away on February 5, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter Susan. Born in Boston, John grew up in Jamaica Plain and was educated in Bosto public schools. After graduating early in high school, he proudly enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Reeves in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He served again during the Korean Conflict. After the war, John graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology and enjoyed a long career as a draftsman, retiring at the tender age of 70, from Bird Machine. He was voracious reader, former Red Sox fan and an avid Patriots fan. He also tremendously enjoyed the theatre. In his day, a lover of the big band era, he was quite the dancer bringing home many a trophy. He enjoyed summers in Onset and lazy Sunday drives exploring the back roads and byways of the Cape. But his greatest love and joy was spending time with his family and being Papa. He will forever be remembered for his indomitable spirit, can do attitude, and his love of family. He was the son the late John J. Gallagher and Anna (Goode) Gallagher both born in Ireland. He was predeceased by one brother and two sisters. He is survived by the love of his life, Marcia Johnson of Easton and his five children, Nan Boe and her husband Brett Boe of Taunton, Neil Gallagher and his wife Jan Gallagher of Brockton, Susan Gallagher-Heroux and her husband Robert C. Heroux of Taunton, Mark P. Gallagher and his wife Laney Gallagher of Raynham and Maura Gallagher and her partner Richard Watt of Brockton. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kelly G. Boe and Richard J. Boe of Taunton and his little sweetheart Katherine G. Heroux of Taunton. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, Ma 02780 on Thursday, February 11th at 10 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 11 am.
