Winifred L. “Winnie” (McCarry) Frongillo, age 82, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton.
She was the beloved wife of Guido C. “Guy” Frongillo, to whom she was wed on February 14, 1953.
Born in Bronx, New York on August 3, 1933, she was a loving daughter of the late Alexander and Lillian (Churcher) McCarry.
Winnie grew up in Mansfield and was a 1951 graduate of Mansfield High School. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a degree in education from Bridgewater State College.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Frongillo taught for over 20 years as a Fourth Grade Reading Teacher for the Mansfield public school system.
She had made her home in Norton for the past 25 years and was a former longtime resident of Mansfield. She was an active member and former Sunday School Teacher at the former St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Mansfield.
Winnie’s favorite times spent were those amongst family friends, especially the summer months spent in Chatham. Her other interests included reading, arts, crafts and gardening.
Mrs. Frongillo will always be remembered for her charitable nature, was very proud of her children’s accomplishments and enjoyed helping her son William with his business.
In addition to her husband of nearly 63 years, she is survived by her devoted children Nancy L. Sliney and her husband Edward, Jr. of Mansfield, Thomas C. Frongillo and his wife Rita of Norfolk and Milton, and William D. Frongillo and his wife Gail of Cumberland Foreside, Maine. She was the dear sister of the late Lillian Kirby. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren Kristy Fontaine, Justin Sliney, Alexander “Alexi” Frongillo, Timothy Frongillo, John Frongillo, Faye Frongillo and great grandchildren Max Fontaine, Ethan Sliney and Emma Sliney.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23rd at 10:00A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. ((Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 22nd from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Winnie’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 473 South St. W #13, Raynham, MA 02767.
