SPENCER: Mary T. (Howe) Shamoian 58, of Collier Circle, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Christmas Day after a courageous 12-1/2 year battle with colon cancer.
She leaves her husband of 35 years, Stephen M. Shamoian, her two sons Stephen E. Shamoian and his wife Lindsay of Millbury, and Paul J. Shamoian of Bellingham, her daughter Jaclyn M. Bastien and her husband Michael of Holden, her mother Ann (Hennessey) Howe of Worcester, three sisters Donna Johnson and her husband Galen of Leicester, Linda McGuirk of Rochdale and Paula Romano of Spencer, her four grandchildren Avery & Taylor Shamoian and Blake & Brooke Bastien, several nieces and nephews.
Mary was a secretary for the Pupil Services Dept. in the Spencer School System where she worked for the past 20 years.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of the late Donald Howe, and later graduated from South High and Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester. She was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish.
What Mary enjoyed most in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially her four beautiful grandchildren. Mary also enjoyed her summer vacations in Maine.
The family would like to thank the staff at Central Mass. Hospice for their compassionate caring of Mary while at home, and a sincere thank you to her oncologist, Dr. Deborah Schrag and her team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for their many years of caring for Mary during her long illness.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's name may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute c/o Center of Gastrointestinal Oncology, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, Ma. 02215.
