Obituary

Alan David Spiegel, 58, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, following a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Worcester, son of Lilyan (Ritz) and Morris Spiegel. Alan worked as a bookseller and manager at Tatnuck Booksellers in Worcester for many years and at Book Ends in Winchester, MA for the last several years. He also worked as an Independent Publishers’ Sales Representative throughout New England. Alan was an avid, life-long reader whose love of books was only surpassed by the love he had for his family.

He leaves his life partner and wife of 26 years, Christann D. (Nadeau) Spiegel, with whom he shared a love unlike any other. He also leaves his four devoted children; Zachary Azoulay of Leominster, Maia Vergara Azoulay (wife of Sergio Vergara) of Wakefield, Avi Azoulay of Stow, and Caleb Spiegel of Stow. He was especially proud to be the grandfather of three adoring grandchildren; Ellie Azoulay, Gabriel Vergara, and Ezra Vergara. Alan also leaves his sister, Susan (Spiegel) Graves (wife of Jon Graves) of Chelmsford, as well as many nieces and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Barry Spiegel.

This world lost a truly honorable person but another is rejoicing at his arrival. He will be missed and remembered, by all who knew him, forever.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at First Parish in Concord, 20 Lexington Rd., Concord, MA. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Alan D. Spiegel to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
