Obituary

SPENCER/LEICESTER:Sally (Streeter) Johnson, 73, of Spencer died Thanksgiving night at Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a brave struggle with lung cancer. Her last days were spent surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves her husband Gerald Berg of Spencer, son Robert, Jr. and wife Lisa of Charlton, and son Stephen and wife Beth, of Leicester. She also leaves her grandchildren Robert, Eric, Madeleine, Noah and Abigail, many beloved nieces and nephews, her special niece Susan Mercer of Leicester, and her lifelong friend and soul sister, Linda Moulin of Auburn. Her husband Robert A. Johnson, Sr.died in 1990.She was predeceased by her brothers Clarence, Robert and Richard Streeter. Sally will also be mourned by her “second family” at Greenville Baptist Church in Rochdale, a community that was central to who Sally was throughout her life.

Sally was a fixture in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, and taught them dedication, strength, loyalty and the importance of family above all. She would never think twice about sacrificing her own comfort and convenience to make sure her loved ones were cared for.

Sally grew up in Rochdale and graduated from Leicester High in 1960, beginning a legacy that continued with her children and grandchildren. She could often be seen rooting on her beloved Wolverines, cheering for her children and later, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews on the sports fields of Leicester. She was always popping by to visit friends and family, whether it was to bring Dollar Store treasures to the little ones, or to comfort a sick friend. Sally put others first, and truly “walked the walk” of being a good Christian.

Sally retired from Liberty Mutual in 2003 after a successful 25-year career. Her retirement years were happy ones. She relished having family close by, and she and her loving husband Gerry enjoyed everything from international travel adventures to quiet companionship. Even in her last days, she had lessons to teach us all about strength and endurance. She will be truly missed, but will, without a doubt, continue to watch over us and cheer us on.
Sally's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. in Greenville Baptist Church, 684 Pleasant St., Rochdale. Burial will follow in Greenville Baptist Cemetery. Calling hours at the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester are Monday, Nov. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m.
