Gary W. Patten, Sr., age 71, of Norton passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 16, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Darby) Patten to whom he was wed for 41 years.
Born in Livermore Falls, Maine on June 8, 1944, he was a loving on of the late William and Evelyn (Sears) Oleson.
Gary grew up and was educated in Portland, Maine. He was a graduate of Charlestown High School in Massachusetts.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Patten was employed as a utility worker for over 30 years at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He had made his home in Norton for the past 40 years.
Gary enjoyed boating, motorcycles and hot rods. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, cruises with his wife Joanne, and their favorite point of destination being the Caribbean’s.
He was an outstanding father and when his sons where younger he was fully engaged with their activities which included vacations at Disney World, trips to New Hampshire and snow boarding. At the time of his death he was anticipating the birth of his eighth grandchild.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted sons Gary W. Patten, Jr. and his wife Renee of Attleboro, Robert P. Patten and his wife Marybeth of Halifax, James M. Patten, NFD and his wife Cheri of North Easton and John P. Patten, NFD and his fiancé Shauna of Norton. He was the dear brother of Betty Brown of Maine, Richard Patten and his wife Merelene of Florida, Lorraine Crosby of Wilmington, Allison Skelton and her husband Gerald of Billerica and the late Judith Brown. He is also survived by his 7 cherished grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, November 20th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 19th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
