Gately, Catherine A. (Clifford) lifelong resident of Mission Hill, Nov. 9, 2015. Beloved mother of Karen T. Gately of Medford, Paula C. Gately of Chelsea, and Jimmy Gately of Mission Hill. Cathy was born to late Thomas and Molly Clifford from Kerry Ireland. Loving sister of the late Mary and Timmy Clifford.
“Going to Ellies for Jellies” was a popular saying on the Hill and during the 60’s and 70’s Cathy joined members of her family to run the infamous Ellies Donut shop where she was known for her caring way, taking time out to talk and listen; a true Mission Hiller who could hold a captive audience with her great story telling ability. She also worked and retired from Brookline Public Schools. Cathy was an advocate for her Mission Hill community serving on the RTH Board for many years as well as a strong supporter of quality of life initiatives for people with special needs.
Remarkably nothing interfered with her unwavering commitment and dedication to her family, especially to her son; which carried through to her last days. Cathy was a lady of character and inner strength who was cherished for her warmth, great attitude about life, and loving nature.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, Tuesday November 17 at 9 am, followed by a Funeral Mass in the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Mission Church) at 10:30 am. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm. Relatives and Friends invited. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cathy’s memory to EC Week at Camp Fatima, 12 Edgemere Rd.
