Obituary

Wayne A. Burgess, Sr., 73, of Worcester died Sunday, October 25th in St. Vincent Hospital due to complications from emphysema and asbestosis. He leaves his wife, Rose M. (Lambert) Burgess; two sons, Wayne A. Burgess, Jr. and his wife, Kris of Worcester and William M. Burgess and his wife, Kate of Hanson, MA; a brother, Leo Burgess and his wife, Cherri of Fitchburg; 5 grandchildren, Kara, Dallas, Maddilyn, McKenzie and Greston and several nieces and nephews.
He was born in Worcester the son of Ara and Beatrice (Tucker) Burgess. Mr. Burgess was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War. Wayne worked for Burns Security, Lusignan Security and District Crime Prevention for many years as a security officer. He also worked at Neles-Jamesbury for 18 years as a machinist. In the 1970’s, Wayne was a co-founder for the Worcester Street Hockey League, which originated in Plumley Village and is now located at Beaver Brook Park. He grew up on Patches Pond playing hockey and loved sports. He was an avid fan of the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox.
Calling hours are Thursday, October 29th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be private in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Brookfield.
