Obituary

Aida Donoian Depoian, 90, a long-time resident of Worcester, died at the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Jamaica Plain, MA.

She was born in Ramallah, Palestine on October 29th, 1925. She was the daughter of Paris and Megerdich John Donoian. She was the wife of the late William Vartkes Depoian. She leaves her daughter Cheryl Arpineh and her husband, Rev. Fr, Antranig Baljian of Waltham; two grandchildren: Nayiri and her husband James Bell of Weston and Rev. Fr. Stephan Baljian and his wife Alice of North Andover and four great grandsons: Avedis, Nishan, Zaven and Hovig.

She is survived by her twin brother, Ara and his wife Eva and her sisters-in law Margaret Donoian and Anne Choolfaian. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Dr. Haig C. Donoian. She also leaves many nephews and nieces, grand nephews and nieces as well as several cousins.

After coming to America in 1936, Aida settled with her family in Lowell, where she attended school. After her marriage in 1947 she moved to Worcester where she worked in the garment industry until retirement.

Aida sewed and crocheted, avidly followed current events, enjoyed playing cards, music, singing, old movies, mysteries, and musicals, and has passed down her love of music to her family. She was a member of the Lowell AYF, and sang in the Armenian National Chorale. Until recently, Aida was an active member of Armenian Apostolic Holy Trinity Church in Worcester, and a member of the Ladies’ Guild for over fifty years, where she was recognized for her service with a Certificate of Merit from the Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Aida was also a member of the Worcester Knar Chapter of the Armenian Relief Society for several decades, and sang in the Greater Worcester Armenian Chorale.

Visiting Hours are Friday, October 23 6-8 P.M. at the Aram Bedrosian Funeral Home, 558 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown; and Saturday, October 24, 9:30-11:A.M. with a Funeral Service at 11AM in the Armenian Apostolic Holy Trinity Church, 635 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
