Lura Nell Gregory McDonald Obituary - Water Valley MS

Lura Nell Gregory McDonald, age 75, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at her home in Potlocona, MS surrounded by her family. She was born April 15, 1940 in Bruce, MS to the late Jimmie William and Jonnie Mayford Gregory. Lura was employed as Admissions Director for East Mississippi State Hospital, where she retired after 25 years of service. She was a member of New El Bethel Baptist Church and a member of a Ladies Bible study group who met in her home each week. Lura enjoyed sewing, crafting, painting, pottery, gardening and cooking for her family and friends; and she hand-made and painted ceramic nativity scenes for each member of her family. She was especially fond of her little dog, Lucy.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks, with Bro. Tim Sockwell officiating. Burial will be in the Webb Cemetery in Lafayette County with Johnny McDonald, Josh Timms, Bradley McDonald, Blake McDonald, John McLelland, Jonathan Camp, Thomas Mercer and James Murphy serving as pallbearers. Roe Gregory will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Lura is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Eric) James of Meridian, MS; three sons, Carl (Kathy) McDonald, Randy (Beverly) McDonald and Al (Paula) McDonald all of Potlocona, MS; four sisters, Nancy (Pete) Petros, Jeanie (Danny) Harwell, Tina (Tony) Foster, and Michelle (Brice) Poynor all of Potlocona, MS; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Lucy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Raymond McDonald, Sr. and her brother, Butch Gregory.
