Boylston - Florence L. Smith, 96, died at the Knollwood Nursing Center on Thursday, October 15, 2015. She was the widow of the late Hugo Tobiesen (d. 1987) and Howard Smith (d. 1998). Florence was born in Boylston, daughter of Louisa (Johnson) and Carl M. Swenson. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and Clark University. Florence was a WWII Navy veteran. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Boylston, and a former member of Christ Lutheran Church and First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Boylston Garden Club and the Historical Society of Boylston, and Florence was a former trustee of the Boylston Public Library.
Florence is survived by a son, Eric A. Tobiesen of Boylston and a daughter, Ula K. Swenson of Putnam Valley, NY; three grandsons, John, David, and Eric Spittal and four great-grandchildren, Anders, Amelia, Johanna, and Julia Spittal. She was predeceased by a brother and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester on Saturday, October 17, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Boylston, 10 Church St., Boylston on Sunday, October 18, at 2:00pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
