Obituary

Worcester – Jeanette R. (René) Mitchell, 79, of Worcester, died peacefully at the Jewish Healthcare Center on Thursday, September 10th.

Jeanette was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Valliere) Rene, and she lived her entire life as a resident of the city. Mrs. Mitchell was married to the late Edwin Mitchell for 59 years. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Mitchell and his wife Donna of Spencer and Bruce Mitchell of North Carolina; two daughters, Sandra Mines and her husband Timothy of Worcester and Linda Roach of Texas; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Jeannette was predeceased by two sons, Stephen Mitchell and David Mitchell, and by her three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate of Commerce High School of Worcester, and she was named as a winner of the prestigious Horace Mann Scholar award. Jeannette worked for many years as a pension actuarial clerk at the former State Mutual Company, and earlier at Paul Revere Life Insurance Company. A skilled seamstress, she was an avid maker of doll clothes and costumes for her children. She cherished her little Yorkshire Terrier “Yo-Yo” until he passed. As a means of meeting people outside of home and work she acted as a Popular Club Plan Secretary, a Tupperware hostess, did some political campaigning, and frequently dined out with her husband.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery, Bourne. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. is directing arrangements.
