East Thompson, CT

Sylvia Louise (Swallow) Cody, 82, of Sand Dam Road, a retired pastor and founder of the “House of Prayer” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2015.

She leaves her devoted husband of 63 years, John Thomas Cody, Sr. and three children, Walter J. Cody of Webster, Catherine J. Stefanides and her significant other David Johnson of Webster, and John T. Cody Jr. and his wife Anita of Woodstock Valley, CT. She also leaves 4 grandchildren: Philip Stefanides and his wife Tara, Heath Cody and his wife Adriane, and Nicholas and Elizabeth Cody. She also leaves behind 2 great-grandchildren Bella Cody and Lia Louise Stefanides, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia is predeceased by 3 sisters, Priscilla, Charlotte and Edna, and her brother Fred.

Beyond Sylvia’s 40 years of dedicated work as a Pastor, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, loved animals, vacationing at Booth Bay Harbor and Wallum Lake. She also had a passion for singing gospel music.

Calling Hours for Sylvia will be Friday, September 11, 2015 from 9:30-11:00AM with a Funeral Service to follow at 11AM in the ROBERT J. MILLER FUNERAL HOME & LAKE CHAPEL, 366 School Street Webster.

Burial will immediately follow at East Thompson Cemetery.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to New Missions Haiti Fund P.O. Box 2727 Orlando, FL, 32802.
