Obituary

Barbara Papazian, 87, of Worcester passed away Friday September 4, at Knollwood Nursing Center surrounded by her family.

She was born in Worcester on October 16, 1927 a daughter of the late Sarkis H. and Esther (Agoian) Papazian. Barbara attended local schools and graduated from Commerce High School.

Barbara joined the Foreign Service of the State Department in Washington DC in 1960. Following her assignment in the states she was assigned to Paris for 14 months. When she returned, she went on to work as a Secretary for various local companies. She retired from UMass Hospital as an Administrative Assistant in 1994.

She was raised a member of the Armenian Church of Martyrs and then joined the Park Congregational Church. Her faith was a very important part of her life.

Barbara had a passion for food, especially cooking and dining out. She loved traveling and visited many European countries. When spending time at home she enjoyed reading, the daily crossword puzzle, and spending time with family and friends.

Barbara is survived by a niece Nancy M. Papazian and her daughter Andrea Giannino of Worcester; a nephew David S. Papazian and his wife Gina of Worcester; a nephew Gerald Papazian and his wife Joan of Incline Village, NV; as well as many beloved great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her family, Barbara was fortunate to have many dear friends.

Barbara was predeceased by two brothers; George Papazian of Whitinsville and Richard H. Papazian of Worcester; and three nephews, Ralph, Ronald and David Papazian.


A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1pm at Park Congregational Church in the Davis Chapel, 111 Park Ave, Worcester. The Davis Chapel,is attached to the First Baptist Church and can be accessed from Park Avenue. The Rev. Dr. Gary Shahinian will officiate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Armenian Missionary Association, 31 West Century Rd, Paramus, NJ 07652. Arrangements are in the care of CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St.
