Obituary

Worcester – Gilbert E. Smith Sr., 78, of Worcester, died on Sunday, August 30th in his home.

Mr. Smith was married to Linda H. (Dube) Smith and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October. He is survived by 2 daughters, Karen L. Marzilli of Worcester and Lorilee Thomas Smith of Grafton; 4 sons, Gilbert E. Smith Jr. and Richard W. Smith both of Clearwater, FL and Randy S. Smith and Michael E. Smith both of Worcester; 2 brothers, Charles Smith of Greer, SC and Stanley Smith of Uxbridge; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Mr. Smith was born in Gloucester, MA son of the late Clarence and Gertrude (Hobbs) Smith and is also predeceased by a brother, Albert Smith and a sister, Jean Boucher.

He worked for AmeriPride Services as a driver for 49 years and retired in April 2014. Mr. Smith was a member of the Main South American Legion Post #341, the Singletary Rod & Gun Club and the French Club in Athol. He also owned the former English Social Club in Worcester. Mr. Smith was a member of the National Rifle Association and was a true outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and hiking.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd from 5 to 7 PM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to either Sherry’s House c/o Why Me 1152 Pleasant St. Worcester, MA 01602 or to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
