Evelyn I. Westhaver-Allen, 90

Evelyn I. (Eldridge) Westhaver-Allen, age 90, of Mansfield passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 24, 2015 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund A. Westhaver and the late C. Elmer Allen.
Born in Framingham, MA on May 16, 1925, she was a loving daughter of the late Percy D. and Elizabeth E. (Gardiner) Eldridge. At the age of five, her family moved to Mansfield and she was a 1943 graduate of Mansfield High School.
As a young girl, Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper for the Kirley Coal & Supply Co in Mansfield for six years. She later married Edmund Westhaver and following his untimely death, was left to raise her three young children alone. She delivered eggs on her daily route in Mansfield in the 1950’s and 1960’s to help support her family.
An active member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, she was also a longtime member of the Farm Bureau in Bristol County and a former member of the Rainbow Girls and the Mansfield Grange.
Evelyn’s main interest in life was her family and helping others; which included visiting those in nursing homes. At the time of her death, she was anticipating the birth of her eighth great grandchild.
She is survived by her devoted children Edmund D. Westhaver and his wife Kathleen of Mansfield, Evelyn E. Saunders and her husband Robert of Walpole and Joyce A. Thompson and her husband Stephen of Winchendon. She was the dear sister of Robert D. Eldridge of Florida and the late Richard Eldridge, and is also survived by her cherished 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Her memorial service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday, September 6th at 1:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church, 52 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial was held privately at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours are omitted, and those wishing may remember Evelyn with a donation in her memory to the Memorial Fund of the Mansfield Baptist Church, 52 North Main St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
