Betty Lavender Dickson, 67, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Ronald Parks and the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Ms. Dickson was born November 29, 1947, in Sylvester, Georgia, to the late Robert Thomas and Laura Eva Mae Griffin Hogan. She moved to the community in 1965 and was a former customer service employee with Wal-Mart in Fitzgerald. She enjoyed art & crafts and cooking. Ms. Dickson was very involved in the Ben Hill Community center. She was a member Anderson Memorial Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Mark & Kathy Lavender of Fitzgerald, Marie Lavender of San Antonio, Texas, Laura L. & Rev. Ronald Parks of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Stephanie, Andrew, Amanda and Laura-Mae; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Shirley Hogan, Dale H. & Michael Glass and Kathy H. McDaniel, all of Fitzgerald; brother: Bobby Hogan of Fitzgerald and Billy & Shiela Hogan of Tifton. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Walter Wayne Dickson; a son: Joe Thomas Lavender; two sisters: Joyce Hogan and Mary H. Hall; three brothers: T. H. Hogan, Jimmy Hogan and Jerry Hogan.
