Richard J. Plante, Sr., age 84, of Mansfield passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Gloria L. (Edwards) Plante to whom he was wed for over 60 years.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 13,1931, he was a loving son of the late Joseph, Sr. and Helena (Theriault) Plante.
Mr. Plante Retired after 35 years from Aetna Insurance where he served as Manager of the Providence office. He had made his home in Mansfield for over 40 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Providence College, and enjoyed reading, golfing and along with his wife; traveling to Europe and the many wonderful winters they spent in Florida.
He recently volunteered for a clinical research study for the prevention of lung cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children Debra Faria and her husband Thomas of Mansfield, Richard Plante Jr. and his wife Christine of North Attleboro, Laurie Savini and her husband David of Attleboro, Patricia Cataloni and her husband, Steven of Raynham, Karen Smith of Norton and the late Lynn Garland. He was the father in law of the late Morgan Smith. He was the brother of Albert Plante of Homosassa, FL and the late Anita Guerra, Joseph Plante Jr. and Ronald Plante. He is also survived by his cherished 13 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, July 31st at 12:00 P.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 30th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
