Obituary

Athanasios Hatzopoulos, 75, of Worcester died Monday, July 27th in UMass-Memorial Hospital. His wife of 39 years, Maria (Voyiatzis) Hatzopoulos died in 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Vasiliadis and her husband, Nicholas of Worcester; a son John Hatzopoulos; two brothers, Theofilos Hatzopoulos of Worcester and Dimos Hatzopoulos and his wife, Fanoula of Serres, Greece; a sister Maria Engonidis and her husband, Jordan of Myrtle Beach and three grandchildren, George N. Vasiliadis and his fiancée, Samantha Zullo, and Maria E. and Leah K. Vasiliadis.
He was born in Serres, Greece the son of Ioannis and Sultana (Pirperis) Hatzopoulos, and had lived in Germany before moving to Worcester with his family in 1977. Mr. Hatzopoulos had once served with the Greek military. He had owned and operated Summit Pizza for several years. Athanasios was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Alexander the Great-Hrisohorafiton Cultural Center.
His funeral is Thursday, July 30th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 29th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
