Obituary

David C. Cozart, 71, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, July 25, 2015, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at The First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 PM, Monday evening, July 27, 2015 in the chapel of The Paulk Funeral Home, in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Cozart was born June 9, 1944 in Durham, North Carolina to the late John Critcher and Lillian Blackburn Cozart. David was a 1962 graduate of Fitzgerald High School where he played all four years for FHS Purple Hurricanes Football team; he continued his education at the University of Georgia where he graduated in 1966. He moved away for thirty years with his career, where he was a department manager with the Swedish Match Company(Pinkerton Tobacco); and after his retirement, the love of his wife and life long friends was the reason for his return to his hometown where he enjoyed playing golf, watching baseball, enjoyed fishing, love to follow the University of Georgia football. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 99 in Fitzgerald. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and seeing different places. Mr. Cozart attended the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of thirteen years: Brenda Leverett Cozart of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses, Brad Cozart and wife LeVon of Owensboro, Kentucky, Patrick Cozart of Augusta, Georgia, Jimmy Avera of Baxley, Georgia and Chris Schubert and wife Stephanie of Roswell, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; two nephews, John Cozart and wife Janice of Plainfield, Indiana and Tony Cozart & wife Maggie of Cincinnati, Ohio; several great nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, a brother, John Blackburn Cozart, preceded him in death.
