Obituary


Evans,GA- James Chaney Clark, 94, a true and dedicated servant of God, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday afternoon, July 17, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Verna Bible Clark.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the First United Pentecostal Church, 1929 Fenwick Street, Augusta, Georgia at 2:00 pm. Those officiating will be his grandson, Pastor Nathan Cash, Pastor Terry Newsome, Pastor Steve Cole, and Pastor Russell Folger. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Pastor Dewain French officiating.
A native of Richmond County, he was born at home on the family farm on Old Waynesboro Road known as the Pine Hill Community of Hephzibah, Georgia. He attended the old Pine Hill Grammar School and Hephzibah High School. He began his professional career in the creosote industry and furthered his education with a degree in Industrial Foremanship and took courses at Louisiana State University and the University of Georgia. He was a retired Plant Manager for ITT Corporation having served in that capacity in the Wilmington, North Carolina plant as well as the Augusta plant. He was a former member of the Augusta Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his wife Verna, father and mother, James Edward Clark and Effie Louise Corley Clark, and his son-in-law, James Nelson Cash. He was the last surviving member of his family and would have been 95 years old on July 30th.
James was a faithful Christian having served over the years in various capacities of the church. He was the founder and first pastor of Calvary Tabernacle, Waynesboro, Georgia, having overseen the construction of a new debt-free sanctuary in 1981. He had been missionary to those incarcerated, the Pines Convalescent Home and Brentwood Nursing facilities. He was committed to the furtherance of the Gospel and was a member of the Greater Augusta Apostolic Church.
In 2010, he was honored by the United Pentecostal Church International for his fifty years of being in the ministry and also by the Georgia District of the UPCI. He was an awesome inspiration to those who knew and heard him and was a man of great character, perseverance, integrity, and lived an exemplary Christian life. He was always there for his family and was loved by many. James was most humbled by his 90th birthday celebration given by his son and daughter.
He is survived by a son, Marion Edward Clark, and his wife, Peggy, Hephzibah; a daughter, Charlotte C. Cash, Evans, GA; three grandchildren, Robin Clark Faulkner, Edgefield, SC; Nathan Andrew Cash, and his wife, Sherah, Columbus, GA, and Jennifer Clark Bellew, Augusta; eight great-grandchildren, Shawn, Trever, Joseph, Summer, Caitlyn, Abigail, Zane and Bethany; and several great-great grandchildren; nephews, Jimmy M. Clark, Bruce Carstarphen; nieces, Shelby Walker, Jewel Chavous, Sara Newton, Bootsie Powell, and Barbara Parks.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Alton Walker, Harold Crawford, Jimmy M. Clark, David Gaither, Steve Kitchings, Duncan Fordham, Rick Chavous, Johnnie Stubblefield, III. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Mark Maddox, Rev. Cory Mullins, Rev. Rusty Folger, Rev. C.L. O’Bryan, Rev. John Biggs, Rev. Wille R. Scott, Rev. Nathan Carrell , Rev. Bobby Miller, Sr., Rev. Bobby Miller, Jr. and any other ministers that may be present.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to Doctor William T. Neumann and Doctor Kraig Wangnes for their professional and compassionate care over the years to their loved one.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, July 20, 2015, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA. Mr. Clark will lie in state one hour prior to service time.
