JOYCE, MICHAEL J. of Brookline, formerly of Roxbury, passed away following a brief illness on July 11, 2015 at the age of 88. Born in 1926 to Michael and Anne (Laffey) Joyce of Roxbury. Dear brother of the late John Joyce, Thomas Joyce, Mary Spence, Anna Colten, Helen Paulson, Margaret Garvey and Teresa Miller, also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews. A longtime resident of Roxbury, he lived most recently at the Goddard House in Brookline. A child of Irish immigrants, he graduated from the Mission Church High School in Boston, and later received his bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University. He worked in the construction industry and was a proud member of the Laborers' International Union of North America local #223. He enjoyed reading, sports, politics and jogging around Jamaica Pond. Visiting hour Wednesday, July 15th from 8:30 - 9:30 am at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, followed by a Funeral Mass in Mission Church, Roxbury at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Michael’s memory to Mission Church, 1545 Tremont St., Roxbury, MA 02120.
