Kermit G. Bickford, 87, formerly of West Sutton passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth J. ‘Betty’ (Lanagan) Bickford, their children; Kevin Kermit Bickford and his wife Lesa of Douglas, Brian Keith Bickford and his wife Nancy of Millbury, Cheryl Ann Hebert and her husband Brian of Sutton, and Kenneth Wayne Bickford and his wife Wendy of Douglas and 8 grandchildren.
Kermit was born in Oxford on the family farm, July 26, 1927 the son of the late Kermit R. and Sarah (Grandone) Bickford, and lived in West Sutton for 50 years. He graduated from Sutton High School and Becker Junior College. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Philippines and California.
Kermit worked was a supervisor of payroll at Whitin Machine Works and later Norton Co. where he retired.
He was a Director of the Becker Jr. College Alumni Association, a Director of the Norton Credit Union, a member of the Sutton Grange, The Oxford Lodge AF &AM of Masons, Greendale Men’s Club, enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing especially Rangely Lake in Maine, and was a coin and stamp collector.
Kermit was also a Civil War History buff and was a member of the Civil War Preservation Trust.
He was a member of the Sutton Congregational Church and served as a deacon and on the usher committee.
As per his request, Funeral Services will be Private.
