Obituary

Francis J. Grogan, 79, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, June 17th in Beaumont at Worcester. He leaves his wife of 39 years, Patricia M. (Merchant) Grogan; a son, Thomas F. Grogan of Worcester; three step daughters, Tina MacConnell and her husband Jon of Hopkinton, JoAnn Dwyer and her husband Thomas of Westborough, and Charlene Slocum and her husband Brad of Canton; a brother, Paul Grogan and his wife Donna of Boston; a sister, Dorothy Goldman of Worcester; and he was the beloved Gramp to Jennifer and Emily Dwyer, Sam and Scott MacConnell, and Bradford and Justin Slocum. He also leaves several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Jean Healey and Geraldine Sofia.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Francis E. and Jane A. (Trainor) Grogan and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. Mr. Grogan served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After serving his country, he was a type setter for the Boston Globe and then an ink coder for BASF, Taunton. After retiring, he was a maintenance worker for Guarantee Management Company. He was an avid reader, enjoyed vacations in Florida, and liked sports and golf. But more than anything, he enjoyed getting together with his family.
The Grogan family would like to thank the staff of Beaumont at Worcester for the exceptional care they provided for Francis.
Friends and family may visit on Monday, June 22nd from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Center, 1 Eaton Place, Worcester, MA 01608.
