Robert R. Barboza, Sr., age 85, of Norton, formerly of Easton, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy L. (Heino) Barboza, to whom he was wed for 53 years, at the time of her death on January 8, 2008.
Born in Easton, MA on November 23, 1929, he was a loving son of the late Manuel and Lottie Ann (Rogers) Barboza.
Bob grew up, and was educated in Easton and Norton. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was honorably discharged from the service on March 1, 1954 with the rank of Corporal.
A resident of Norton for the past 52 years, Mr. Barboza worked at Wheaton College in Norton for 49 years and retired with the position of foreman of the carpentry department.
Bob, along with his family, attended St. Mary’s Church in Norton and was a member of the Norton VFW Post 8049.
He loved fishing, and spending time with family, especially being a part of his grandchildren’s activities, which included attending his grandson Tyler’s baseball games.
Bob was an avid New England sports fan; the Red Sox being his favorite team to cheer on, and when younger had the opportunity to play softball against “the King and his Court”.
Mr. Barboza also enjoyed spending time with family and friends alike at his home carpentry shop, and will always be remembered for his entertaining sense of humor.
He is survived by his devoted children Nancy M. Roderick of Norton, Robert R. Barboza, Jr. of Norton, Steven A. Barboza and his wife Diane of Lakeville and David J. Barboza and his wife Joyce of Easton. He was predeceased by his dear siblings, and is also survived by his adoring grandchildren Michelle and her husband Danny, Jennifer, Heather, Casey, Seth and Tyler, his great grandson Danny, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, June 22nd at 11:30 a.m. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday morning prior to services beginning at 10:00 A.M.
